If you’re a small business owner looking to find a business credit card, you’ll know that there are a lot of options out there. One way to narrow it down is by bank. Especially if you already have a business bank account at Comerica Bank, you may be interested in its business credit cards.
Comerica Bank offers four business credit cards: Mastercard® Business Cash, Mastercard® Business Real Rewards, Mastercard® Business Rewards Plus, and Mastercard® Business Platinum. All of the Comerica Bank business credit card options include expense management tools, EMV smart chip technology, and the ability to make mobile payments. Additionally, all of the cards allow business owners to add employee cards for no fee.
Beyond those similarities, the cards have key differences. There is one cash back card, the Mastercard® Business Cash Card, and two rewards points cards, the Mastercard® Business Real Rewards Card and the Mastercard® Business Rewards PLUS Card. The fourth Comerica Bank business credit card is Mastercard® Business Platinum Card, a non-rewards card that offers lower interest to help you pay down other credit card balances.
We’ll cover these cards in greater depth so you can better decide if any of these cards are a good fit for your business. We also included three comparable alternatives to consider so you know your options and can better compare the Comerica Bank business credit cards.
Comerica Bank Mastercard® Business Cash is the only cash-back business credit card offered by Comerica Bank. With this card, you’ll earn 3% cash back on eligible net purchases from office supply stores and phone and TV services. You’ll get 2% cash back on eligible net purchases at restaurants and gas stations, and 1% back on all other eligible net purchases.
After you make your first purchase, you’ll get a $25 cash back bonus.
The Mastercard® Business Real Rewards Card is one of two Comerica Bank business credit cards that offers rewards points. This card offers 1.5 points for every $1 you spend each month on eligible net purchases. To compare it to the Mastercard® Business Cash Card, that’s the equivalent of 1.5% cash back. You are able to redeem your points for up to five years after you earned them.
After your first purchases, you earn a bonus of 2,500 rewards points.
The Mastercard® Business Rewards PLUS Card is the other Comerica Bank business credit card that offers rewards points. This card offers up to 3 points for every $1 you spend on qualified purchases, which is the equivalent of 3% cash back. For all other purchases, you’ll still earn 1.5 points, which is the number of points offered by the Mastercard® Business Reward Card for eligible purchases. You similarly have five years to redeem your points for rewards.
The initial bonus is also much better with the Mastercard® Business Rewards PLUS Card than the Mastercard® Business Reward Card, though you must spend a certain amount to earn it. With this card, you get 20,000 bonus reward points after you spend $2,000 in the first three months.
Unlike the previous three Comerica Bank business credit cards, Mastercard® Business Platinum is not a rewards card. Instead, this card offers lower interest rates, making it a good option for business owners who want to pay down credit card balances quickly.
Mastercard® Business Platinum Card also offers expense management tools and additional security benefits. As it’s not a rewards card, there’s no associated signup bonus.
If you’re not sure if any of the Comerica Bank business credit cards seem right for your business or you simply want to know what your options are, we’ll look at some other options. Here are three top alternatives to the Comerica Bank cards.

If you’re specifically interested in a cash-back business credit card, one option worth considering is Blue Business Cash from American Express. This card offers 2% back on all eligible purchases on the first $50,000 each calendar year, then 1% back on all purchases after.
Though these introductory cash-back rates are certainly enticing, note that Comerica Bank’s Mastercard® Business Cash continues to offer 3% or 2% cash back on certain eligible net purchases for beyond the first $50,000 spent.
Although Blue Business Cash from Amex does not offer a signup bonus like Mastercard® Business Cash, it does offer a 0% intro APR on purchases for the first 12 months. Once the intro period has ended, your APR will vary with the Prime Rate and depend on your creditworthiness. Be sure to check the issuer’s terms and conditions for the latest information.
There’s also no annual fee associated with the card.

Another cash-back business credit card worth considering is Capital One Spark Cash. This card doesn’t offer higher cash-back rates for any particular categories, instead offering 2% cash back on every purchase with no cap. If your business doesn’t spend a lot in the categories singled out by either Mastercard® Business Cash or Blue Business Cash from Amex, this may be a better option for your business.
On the downside, this card does have an annual fee. After the first year, you’ll pay an annual fee of $95.

If you’d prefer points to cash back, Amex Blue Business Plus might be a better alternative to consider. You earn 2x points for every dollar you spend for the first $50,000 in purchases within the first year. After the first year, you’ll earn 1x point for every dollar you spend. Comerica Bank’s Mastercard® Business Rewards PLUS, meanwhile, offers 3 points for every $1 you spend on qualified purchases. You’ll earn 1.5 points on all other purchases. Additionally, Amex Blue Business Plus does not offer a signup bonus, whereas Mastercard® Business Rewards PLUS offers 20,000 additional bonus points if you spend $2,000 in the first three months.
Where Amex Blue Business Plus differentiates itself is the 0% intro APR period, which lasts for 12 months. This makes it a good option for business owners who carry over credit card balances from month to month. Again, once the introductory period ends, your APR will depend on your creditworthiness and the Prime Rate. There is no annual fee for the Amex Blue Business Plus.
Comerica Bank offers four solid business credit card options for small business owners to consider. Three of the four cards offer rewards, while Mastercard® Business Platinum skips the rewards and instead offers lower interest rates. This makes Mastercard® Business Platinum an option that may appeal to business owners focused primarily on quickly paying down their credit card balances.
If rewards is what you want, that leaves you with the choice between one cash back card and two different rewards points cards. Comerica Bank’s Mastercard® Business Cash offers 3% cash back on eligible net purchases from office supply stores and phone and TV services; 2% cash back on eligible net purchases at restaurants and gas stations; and 1% cash back on all other eligible net purchases. If you want higher initial cash back rates in certain categories or a simple, flat cash-back rate, take a look at the cash rewards alternatives we cover.
As for the two Comerica Bank business credit card options that offer rewards points, there is Mastercard® Business Real Rewards and Mastercard® Business Rewards PLUS. Mastercard® Business Real Rewards offers 1.5 points for every $1 you spend on eligible net purchases, and a bonus of 2,500 rewards points after your first purchase. Mastercard® Business Rewards PLUS, on the other hand, offers up to 3 points for every $1 you spend on qualified purchases and 1.5 points for every dollar spent on all other purchases. Ths card offers 20,000 bonus rewards points, though you’ll have to spend $2,000 in the first three months to earn it. If you are interested in earning a 0% intro APR alongside your rewards points, you may want to take a look at our rewards points alternative, AMEX Blue Business Plus.
All in all, the Comerica Bank business credit card options cater to a variety of credit card wants. If you definitely want an introductory APR period, though, it may be worth considering some of the alternatives we provide. After all, choosing a business credit card is all about finding a financial ally for your small business.
