Javelina Ranch – Small Batch Pottery from Skip Hobbie on Vimeo
Andrea Barbosa thought she’d have to hit retirement before she had time to spend her days at her potter’s wheel. She never guessed that, two years later, she would quit her day job to become a full-time potter and business owner—but that’s exactly what her future held.
Andrea runs Javelina Ranch, a small batch pottery studio in Austin, Texas. She describes her style as rustic, simple, and functional—a style she brings to each of her products, from pitchers to flower pots. Each piece is crafted by hand and bears Andrea’s signature “Javelina Ranch” stamp.
Andrea admits to being a bit of a perfectionist: “I’m only ever truly happy with it if it’s something I would put in my own home,” she explains. Pieces that don’t cut the mustard end up stashed away in her attic, rather than sold.
It’s all a part of Andrea’s quest to pair her customers with the perfect piece of custom pottery: “I love sitting down to make something that I already know is going to a home,” she says. “Then, I feel like I’m making something really, truly with intention.”
